I am excited to have added a new technique to my Alabama plastic surgery practice known as micro-needling. This technique applies the latest technology to the ancient Far East, practice of acupuncture. Micro needling uses numerous small needles to penetrate ever so slightly into the skin’s surface which causes a mild inflammatory response. This stimulates the release of collagen and growth factors, a process known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) that induces healing. CIT can be used to improve fine wrinkles, acne scars, certain types of scars, pigmented areas, and possibly certain types of hair loss. Wrinkles on the face, hands, and neck respond well to this, especially the difficult to treat “smoker’s lines around the mouth.The superficial injury to the skin allows for various topical agents to readily enter the skin making these treatments more effective.
I will be using Dermapen, a true micro-needling system that is not a roller. It uses 11, 33 gauge needles that precisely and uniformly enters the skin in a controlled fashion. This gives me a great instrument to precisely target fine wrinkles and treatment areas. we offer several pharmaceutical agents that can be used with this technique to enhance our results.
