We have always bucked the trend of creating overly large breasts when performing breast augmentation at our Birmingham plastic surgery practice. The natural look is that’s now trendy is something Dr. Michael Beckenstein has been producing for patients for more than 20 years.
What is the most natural-looking breast augmentation?
A subtly placed, modestly sized implant creates the most natural look. Dr. Beckenstein always recommends that his patients choose their implants carefully to create very natural-appearing breasts. Smaller implants will create larger, fuller, and prettier breasts without that fake ‘Dolly Parton look.’
What happens if breast implants are too big?
“If women come to my office seeking this overdone look,” Dr. Beckenstein says, “I will refer them elsewhere. Not only do these breasts look fake and ‘augmented,’ they have higher long-term side effects, including stretching the skin, losing upper fullness, and rippling.
You can see some of Dr. Beckestein’s attractive results in his breast augmentation patients’ before-and-after photos.
What type of breast implant is best?
There are many breast implant features to consider, and it’s ultimately a very individualized decision. These choices will include:
- The breadth of the implant’s base
- How much the implant projects from the chest wall
- Round or tear-drop shaped
- Silicone or saline filling
How do I choose the right size implant?
Breast implants are chosen based on how they fit the patient’s body frame, goals, personal preferences, and the surgeon’s recommendations.
“I insist on a prolonged consultation process to assure my patients know all they need to about breast augmentation, including side effects and complications. Patients will be seen several times by me to assure this. I will not discuss cup size except to obtain an appreciation of what the patient is seeking. I use a dimensional approach to precisely measure all dimensions of the chest to find the right range of implants for my patients. I offer several types of implants, including the newest Natrelle round gummy devices.”
How do you see what I would look like with breast implants?
Dr. Beckenstein uses the Crisalix 3D imaging system to help patients envision how various styles and sizes of implants will look on their bodies. You can read more about the Crisalix 3D imaging system and how it can help inform your breast implant decision in this related blog post.
How do you choose a breast augmentation surgeon?
Choose a breast augmentation surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). A plastic surgeon who is a member of The Aesthetic Society is further accepted in performing aesthetic surgery, another hurdle of excellence achieved.
There are many surgeons out there claiming to be plastic or cosmetic surgeons who are not members of any of these prestigious societies and fall into a group of non board-certified cosmetic surgeons. Beware, and thoroughly research any surgeon you are considering!
